Health & Safety
Ensure you and each member is safe during the reunion.
Your wellbeing is at the heart of our reunion. As we come together to celebrate our Cook Islands heritage, we ask every family member to help keep our gathering safe and enjoyable for all ages. Please stay hydrated throughout the day, especially during outdoor activities and the warmer January weather, and remember sun protection — hats, sunscreen and shade breaks. Wear comfortable, sturdy footwear when moving around the venue grounds, paths and accommodation areas. Keep an eye on our little ones near roadways, water and play equipment, and ensure elders are comfortable and supported. Familiarise yourself with the location of first-aid points, emergency exits and assembly areas when you arrive. In the event of an emergency, remain calm, follow the directions of our support team, and callfor police, fire or ambulance. Please advise our team of any allergies, medical conditions or mobility needs so we can look after you well. Clean up spills promptly, dispose of rubbish thoughtfully, and report any hazards you notice. Above all, look out for one another — that spirit of family care is what makes our reunion special. Together, let’s keep this a safe, happy and memorable occasion for everyone.
Doctor on Site
Minnie Strickland
We’re fortunate to have a doctor available on site throughout the reunion. Dr Minnie Strickland will be present to support the health and wellbeing of our family members during the event. Whether it’s a minor injury, an unexpected illness, a medication question, or simply some reassurance, Minnie is here to help in a caring, confidential and culturally understanding way. You’ll find the medical point clearly signposted at the venue, and our support team can direct you there or arrange for Minnie to come to you if needed. We encourage anyone managing an ongoing health condition — such as diabetes, asthma, heart conditions or allergies — to bring their own regular medications and to let Minnie or the support team know on arrival, so we can keep you well looked after. If you have specific care needs for elders, children or expectant mothers, please reach out early. While Dr Strickland can provide first-line care and guidance, please remember that in a serious or life-threatening emergency you should always call 000 immediately for an ambulance, then alert our team. Having a trusted family doctor among us reflects the spirit of this reunion — caring for one another across every generation, just as our families always have.
Security
William Matai
To ensure our reunion is a safe and welcoming space for the whole family, we have a dedicated security team on hand throughout the event. Our security lead, William Matai, and his team are here to assist you at any time, day or night. Please don’t hesitate to approach them — they’re family-minded, approachable, and ready to help. You can seek William and the team for a range of needs: reporting a lost or found item, helping a family member who has become separated from their group, addressing any concern about safety or unwanted behaviour, assisting with access and parking, or simply directing you around the venue. If you ever feel unsafe or witness something that doesn’t seem right, report it to a security team member straight away so it can be handled quickly and discreetly. Security staff will be identifiable and positioned around key areas including entrances, accommodation blocks and gathering spaces. For after-hours assistance, William’s team remains contactable through the support desk. In any genuine emergency, always call 000 first, then notify our security team. By working together and looking out for one another, we can all relax and enjoy reconnecting with family, knowing help is close by whenever it’s needed.
Fire
In Case of Fire
Fire safety is everyone’s responsibility. In the event of a fire, remain calm and immediately evacuate the area using the nearest safe exit. Do not stop to collect personal belongings. Proceed directly to the designated assembly area and remain there until instructed otherwise by event organisers or emergency services. Never re-enter a building or affected area until it has been declared safe. Please familiarise yourself with evacuation routes and assembly points upon arrival. Report any fire hazards, smoke, or suspicious activity immediately. By following fire safety procedures and cooperating with others, we can help protect everyone on the grounds.
Your Property
Protect Your Property
Guests are responsible for the security and care of their personal belongings during their stay. Please keep valuable items secure and do not leave property unattended. While every effort is made to provide a safe environment, the campground cannot accept responsibility for lost, damaged, or stolen items. Respect for others is essential, and taking or using another person’s property without permission will not be tolerated. If you find an item that does not belong to you, please hand it to event organisers or reception. By looking after your own belongings and respecting others, we help create a safe, trustworthy community for everyone.
Clean and Tidy
Be Responsible
All guests are expected to help keep the campground clean, tidy, and enjoyable for everyone. Please do not throw rubbish around the site and always use the bins provided. If bins are full, kindly report it so they can be emptied promptly. Everyone shares responsibility for maintaining a safe and respectful environment, including looking out for one another’s safety at all times. Keep walkways, roads, and communal areas clear and free from hazards. By working together, we can ensure the grounds remain clean, safe, and welcoming for all visitors, both during your stay and for those who arrive after you.
Accessibility
Transport around camp ground
We want everyone to enjoy the reunion. The venue offers accessible facilities and parking close to the main areas, and two buggies are provided to help guests move around the grounds. If you or a family member have specific access needs, please let the organising committee know so we can assist.
